If you want to do paddleboard yoga, the best board for you may not be the typical SUP.
You can forego the extra features that streamline your paddling or enable you to ride in ocean surf. You don’t need to pay more for a faster model.
Ideally, if you want to do SUP yoga or other fitness exercises while balancing on water, you want a paddleboard that is rigid, stable and on the wider side.
An SUP that provides a better balancing surface will make the sport easier to learn and your practice more enjoyable.
Of course, inflatable models give us the convenience of portability. You probably already know that if you are on this site.
What you may not know is that iSUPs usually ride higher in the water due to their thickness. (For example, the SS Space Cake is 6″ thick!). This can increase the stability of the board and minimize the water that flows over the top.
On top of that, the Slingshot Space Cake offers even more stability because it has a wide tip, tail and center. In fact, it has what’s called a “block tail”.
But is an Inflatable SUP Rigid Enough?
if you are asking this question, you have never seen or touched one that is fully inflated. Don’t worry, I asked the same thing. In fact, I strap my iSUP on top of my car when driving short distances to nearby lakes – and people commonly mistake my gear for a regular hardboard.
Is Shorter Better?
Instead of having a long, narrow design like many fast SUPs, the Slingshot SUP is much shorter (at 7’10” in length). This enhances the stable shape even more (not to mention make the equipment a lot easier to carry and maneuver in the water).
However, don’t be deceived into thinking that this smaller-sized version can’t handle big people. This board can carry up to 250lbs in passenger/cargo weight. Bring it on!
The EVA traction pad on the top face covers a large portion of the board, making it easier for your feet and hands to grip while performing balancing movements – or simply moving at all.
Who Should Not Get a Slingshot Space Cake iSUP?
As you’ve probably already gathered, this board is not fast. If you want to enter races or you are buying a paddleboard strictly for paddling fitness, you will be better off with a more streamlined model (a narrower, longer board). Streamlined versions not only move faster through the water, but they do so with less effort.
FYI, the Slingshot Space Cake comes with:
- Pressure gauge
- Repair kit
- Backpack (makes it easy to carry a deflated board)
